How to Get an Ultrasound in Etobicoke Without Taking a Day Off Work
An ultrasound referral shouldn’t cost you a vacation day.
For a lot of working people, that’s the quiet calculation happening in the background when they get a requisition — not “where do I go” but “when can I possibly fit this in without wrecking my week.” Three weeks out at a hospital imaging department means a scheduled absence. A same-week appointment at a community clinic that opens at 8am is a different story.
The Islington Station Advantage
Vitacorp is directly across from Islington Station on the Bloor-Danforth TTC line. If you commute through any stop on Line 2 — Kipling, Royal York, Jane, Keele, or anywhere downtown — Islington is either on your route or a short extension of it.
That means getting an ultrasound doesn’t have to be a separate trip on a separate day. It can be a stop on the way in.
Before Work: The Cleanest Option
Vitacorp opens at 8am. An early morning ultrasound appointment — say 8am or 8:30am — lets you get your imaging done and still arrive at work by 9 or 9:30.
Most ultrasound appointments run 20 to 45 minutes depending on the study. A vascular or soft tissue exam is often on the shorter end. An abdominal study may take a bit longer, particularly if preparation is involved.
When you book, ask about the earliest available slot for your study type. Same-day and same-week appointments are frequently available.
Lunchtime: Also an Option
If early mornings aren’t workable, a lunchtime slot is often feasible too — particularly for shorter study types. The key is booking in advance (ultrasound at Vitacorp is by appointment, unlike X-ray which is walk-in) and giving yourself enough time to get there, have the exam, and get back.
From downtown Toronto on the Bloor-Danforth line, Islington Station is under 20 minutes. From anywhere in Etobicoke, it’s closer.
One More Thing: LifeLabs Is in the Same Building
If your doctor also ordered bloodwork, LifeLabs is directly across the hall from Vitacorp at 1243 Islington Ave. You can handle both imaging and blood draw in the same trip — which saves another separate visit entirely.
