West Toronto is a great place to live. It’s also, historically, a bit underserved when it comes to walk-in diagnostic imaging. If you’ve ever gotten a requisition from your doctor and had to trek downtown or out to Mississauga to find a clinic with a reasonable wait, you know what I mean.
Vitacorp Islington Station was built to fill that gap. We’re at 1243 Islington Ave, right at the western end of Bloor Street — walk-in X-ray, no appointment, OHIP covered, Monday to Friday. If you’re in the west end, this is your clinic.
Who We Serve in West Toronto
Our patients come from all over the Bloor corridor and beyond. Bloor West Village. The Kingsway. Humber Bay Shores. Mimico. Swansea. Roncesvalles. High Park. We also see patients from Mississauga who find us via the subway or who work near Islington and commute through.
The common thread is that people in these neighbourhoods need a walk-in imaging option that doesn’t require a car, isn’t buried in a hospital system, and doesn’t make you book two weeks out. That’s what we offer.
The Bloor Subway Ride Ends at Our Door
If you’re on the Bloor-Danforth line, Islington Station is where the subway meets our building. Literally. There’s a covered walkway that connects Islington Station directly to 1243 Islington Ave. You come out of the subway, follow the walkway, take the elevator to the 6th floor, and you’re at Vitacorp’s front desk.
Coming from High Park, Runnymede, or anywhere east? It’s one ride out. Coming from Jane or Runnymede? One stop. Coming from Kipling or Mississauga on the GO? Transfer to the subway and ride to Islington.
For patients who don’t own a car, this kind of direct transit access isn’t a nice-to-have — it’s often the deciding factor in whether they can realistically get their imaging done at all. We’re aware of that, and it’s one of the reasons we chose this location.
Walk-In X-Ray — What It Means at Vitacorp
Walk-in means you come in without a prior appointment during our operating hours. Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. You show up, check in, and we take care of you.
What you need to bring:
- Your valid Ontario health card
- Your doctor’s signed requisition for the X-ray
That’s genuinely it. We do the rest. The exam itself typically runs between 10 and 20 minutes depending on what’s ordered. We use digital imaging equipment, so your images are read by the radiologist and the report is sent back to your doctor the same day.
No waiting days for results. No follow-up calls asking where your report is. Same-day turnaround is part of how we operate.
Fast Doesn't Mean Rushed
We run an efficient clinic, but efficient doesn’t mean impersonal. Our technologists take the time to explain what they’re doing, especially for patients who haven’t had X-rays before or who are nervous about the procedure. If you have a mobility limitation or an injury that makes certain positions uncomfortable, let us know — our team will work with you.
The feedback we hear most consistently is that patients didn’t expect the experience to feel as human as it did. That matters to us. Vitacorp isn’t a factory. We’re a clinic where real people show up, often on days when they’re not at their best, and we try to treat them accordingly.
Our team is also multilingual, which reflects the community we serve. West Toronto is diverse, and having staff who can communicate comfortably in multiple languages makes a difference for a lot of our patients.
LifeLabs Is Right Next Door
Worth mentioning for west-end patients who are juggling multiple diagnostic orders: LifeLabs is located directly across the hall from Vitacorp on the 6th floor of 1243 Islington Ave. If you need blood work done alongside your X-ray, you’re already in the right building. One visit, one trip on the subway, both done.
This is especially helpful for patients whose doctors have ordered a full workup — imaging plus labs — as part of a new diagnosis or annual check. Instead of coordinating two separate appointments on different days, you can clear both on one morning.
Hours, Location, and How to Reach Us
We’re open Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. There’s no appointment to book — just walk in with your requisition and health card. Mornings tend to be slightly less busy than afternoons.
