How to Get an X-Ray Without Taking a Day Off Work

How to Get an X-Ray Without Taking a Day Off Work

By Kam Chhabra, MRT(N), CCPA — Physician Relations Manager, Vitacorp

Most people assume getting an X-ray means blocking off a morning. Calling in late, finding parking, sitting in a waiting room for longer than the scan itself takes.

It doesn’t have to be that way — especially if you’re already commuting on the TTC.

Vitacorp Is on Your Commute

Vitacorp is at Islington Station on the Bloor-Danforth line. If you’re commuting from anywhere along Line 2 — Kipling, Royal York, Runnymede, Jane, Keele, or heading in from downtown — Islington is either on your way or a short detour.

That matters because it removes the biggest barrier most people face: having to make a separate trip. You’re already on the subway. You can get this done without it eating your day.

Before Work: The Cleanest Option

Vitacorp opens at 8am. For most office workers, that’s a full hour or more before the workday starts.

Show up at 8am, check in, have your X-ray taken — most visits are done in 20 to 30 minutes. You can be at your desk by 9am having already checked something off your list that might otherwise have sat on your to-do list for weeks.

Bring your requisition and OHIP card. No booking needed.

On the Way Home: The Low-Stress Option

If mornings are rushed, the commute home is another clean window. The clinic is open until 5pm. If you can leave work by 4:30, you have time to stop in, get scanned, and still be home at a reasonable hour.

The key is giving yourself enough time — arriving at 4:50pm is tight if your X-ray requires more than one view.

What Makes This Actually Work

A few things that remove friction from the visit:

No appointment. You show up when it suits your schedule, not when a booking slot opens up.

Short visits. Most X-rays are done in under 30 minutes. This isn’t a half-day commitment.

Walk-in, no referral to the specific clinic needed. Your doctor writes a requisition; you bring it here. No additional scheduling, no callbacks.

OHIP covered. Nothing to pay, no insurance pre-authorization to organize.

What to Bring

Your doctor’s requisition and your OHIP card. That’s it. Try to wear something without metal zippers or hardware near the area being scanned — it saves a step when you’re pressed for time.
