Need Blood Work AND an X-Ray? Here's How to Get Both Done in One Trip

By Kam Chhabra, MRT(N), CCPA — Physician Relations Manager, Vitacorp

Two requisitions. Two different places. Two separate trips.

That’s usually how it goes when your doctor orders bloodwork and imaging at the same visit. You leave the office with a lab form and an X-Ray form, and you start trying to figure out how to fit both into your week without losing an entire day.

There’s an easier way — if you’re anywhere near Islington Station.

LifeLabs and Vitacorp Are in the Same Building

LifeLabs is directly across the hall from Vitacorp at 1243 Islington Avenue. Same building, same floor, one elevator ride. You can do both in a single stop.

This is one of those things that regular patients figure out quickly and new patients are always glad to know. It’s not marketed loudly anywhere — it’s just the way the building works. If your doctor has sent you for both, you don’t need two separate days.

How to Plan a Smooth Double Visit

A bit of coordination makes the whole thing easier:

Book LifeLabs in advance if you can. LifeLabs accepts both walk-ins and appointments. If your bloodwork requires fasting — which many standard panels do — it makes sense to book a morning slot so you’re in and out before hunger sets in. You can book online at lifelabs.com.

Vitacorp is walk-in, no booking needed. For your X-ray, just show up during clinic hours (Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm) and you’ll be seen in order.

Bring both requisitions. One for the lab, one for imaging. Keep them separate — each facility registers its own order.

Both need your OHIP card. It’s the same card; just have it ready for both check-ins.

A Simple Way to Sequence the Visit

If your bloodwork requires fasting, do the lab first thing in the morning — get the needle done, then head straight across the hall for your X-ray. By the time you’re done with both, it’s still early, you’ve checked off two things on your to-do list, and you can eat on the way home. If fasting isn’t a factor, the order doesn’t matter much. Do whichever has a shorter wait first.

Getting There

The building is directly across from Islington Station on the Bloor-Danforth TTC line. If you drive, there’s parking in the building. Either way, it’s the same address: 1243 Islington Ave, Etobicoke.

There’s something genuinely useful about having both services in one location — especially for patients who have limited mobility, are managing multiple conditions, or just don’t want to make two separate trips across the city. It’s one of the practical reasons a lot of doctors in the area refer to Vitacorp for imaging.

Are Both Covered by OHIP?

Yes. When medically necessary and ordered by a physician, both bloodwork (through LifeLabs) and X-ray imaging (through Vitacorp) are covered by OHIP. Bring your health card to both desks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get bloodwork and an X-ray done on the same day in Etobicoke?

Yes. LifeLabs and Vitacorp are in the same building at 1243 Islington Ave — you can handle both in a single trip from Islington TTC Station.

Does bloodwork need to be booked in advance?

LifeLabs accepts both walk-ins and appointments. If your bloodwork requires fasting, it’s worth booking a morning slot in advance to make sure you get in quickly. Vitacorp’s X-ray is walk-in, no booking needed.

Does fasting for bloodwork affect my X-ray?

No. Fasting requirements apply to your blood draw, not to a standard X-ray. You can have your X-ray taken regardless of whether you’ve eaten.

Both are covered by OHIP when medically necessary and ordered by a physician. Bring your health card and the appropriate requisition for each.

Do I need separate requisitions for blood work and X-ray?
